Australian Christian Lobby must end its crusade against tolerance and inclusion

Janet Rice 10 Feb 2016

Fear-mongering from the Australian Christian Lobby on a program that aims to make schools more inclusive for young LGBTI people must stop, the Australian Greens say.

"The idea that simply by talking about differences in sexuality and gender identity, you're going to ‘recruit' young people is completely ridiculous. Supporting young people in speaking openly about these issues encourages tolerance and creates more happy and safe school environments," Greens sexuality spokesperson, Senator Robert Simms said.

Time for the Prime Minister to listen to the people

Robert Simms 31 Jan 2016

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull should listen to his electorate and the broader community and grant a free vote on marriage equality in the Parliament this week, the Australian Greens say, after a new poll shows a plebiscite is supported by only 9.6 % of voters in Wentworth.

Robert Simms 27 Jan 2016

The Greens are calling for Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to allow a free vote on marriage equality when Parliament resumes, following reports that conservative MPs plan to ignore the result of a plebiscite on the matter.

"It's ironic that Eric Abetz doesn't want a conscience vote on the issue of marriage equality but when it comes to implementing the outcome of any plebiscite that's a different story. He wants some sort of veto power if he doesn't like the outcome," The Greens spokesperson on Marriage Equality, Senator Robert Simms, said.

Robert Simms 22 Jan 2016

Media reports that a gay man is being prevented from donating life-saving bone marrow, highlight the urgent need for the TGA to review the suite of restrictions imposed on gay men in Australia say the Greens.

"Last year I wrote to the Human Rights Commissioner, Tim Wilson regarding restrictions imposed on men who have sex with men donating blood and asking him to investigate the matter," the Greens Sexuality Spokesperson, Senator Robert Simms, said.
